Houston, TX -- Texas A&M opened its 2009 season with a solid 18-5 victory over the Rice Owls. The Aggies used a balanced attack featuring their strong freshman recruiting class. Ethan DuBois 6g-1a (University School of Nashville), Walker Colt 2g (Stratford), Stuart Latham 1g-1a (Allen), and Charlie Burt 1g (St. Thomas). Veterans Mike Pappas 3g, Steve Bouchard 2g-2a, Eric Bouchard 1g-1a, Dan Curl 1g-2a, Allan Kotzot 1g, and Jim Savage 1a completed the scoring for Texas A&M.
The Aggies out-shot the Owls 41-12, and won the groundball battle 43-16. The veteran defensive unit held the Owls scoreless on 10 man-up tries, while the Aggie man-up went 4-7. In the cage, Ben Jacobson turned in a solid performance for A&M.
A&M looks to improve on its penalty minutes and face-off wins as they host the Texas Tech Red Raiders next Saturday evening in College Station. The game is a college showcase for the 50 high school teams competing in the A&M annual high school tournament.
