College Station, TX -- The Lindenwood Lions turned out for a beautiful evening in College Station on Friday to play the Texas A&M Aggies at home. Both teams looked excited and pumped to be playing a rematch of last year's St. Louis match up, which resulted in a Lindenwood victory. The Aggies were excited to see what they could do to avenge that loss.
The Lions opened scoring at the 13:55 mark, but the Aggies responded quickly, and then pushed out to a 3-1 lead with goals from freshman attackman Walker Colt, junior attackman Jim Savage, and junior attackman Steve Bouchard. They managed to maintain a two point lead in a high scoring first quarter.
However, in the second, the Lions came out with new energy and precision, while the Aggie defense seemed to have trouble keeping track of the Lion players. Lindenwood put in four straight and held A&M scoreless in the second, to go into halftime with a 7-4 lead.
The third period was all an exciting battle of attrition between leading scorers Steve Bouchard and Sam Spallitta, where they each notched three unassisted goals, pushing the score to 10-7. Bouchard would find the back of the net, only to have Spallitta answer within a minute every time. The Aggies could not build momentum, or hold Spallitta off.
At the beginning of the fourth, again Aggies opened scoring on an extra man opportunity, but could not hold on to it, and continued to trade goals, with the game ending 12-9.
Notably, play on both sides was dominated by isolation play, and few goals were assisted. The Bouchard brothers combined for 6 goals, while Kotzot, Savage, and Colt all had one each. Lindenwood scoring was topped by Spallitta, who had 5 goals.
Thanks to all the fans who came out to support the Aggies, and to all those whose hard work makes each home game a possibility. Also thanks to the Lions for making the trip. They play Southern Methodist today, Sunday, the 1st of March in Dallas, and then return to St. Louis.
