College Station, TX -- The Aggies kept their two season long undefeated streak at home alive this weekend when they defeated the TCU Horned Frogs and the Rice Owls. A&M continued to show their dominance during this crucial midseason stretch. The team felt as though they needed to use these games to work on discipline and team play that will be relied upon later in the season.
The first game against the Horned Frogs saw the Aggies lead in almost every statistical category, winning the ground ball battle 19–45 and clearing the ball 27 times compared with TCU’s 15. Despite the final score of 15-6 however, the Aggies played a sub-par game, allowing the Horned Frogs to play with them for three of the four quarters. After an 8-0 first quarter Texas A&M seemed to play a little flat, leaving concerns about their ability to finish off opponents.
The Sunday game against the Rice Owls appeared as if it was going to be more of the same. After winning the first quarter 9-1, the Aggies allowed the Owls to score four unanswered goals in the second quarter and headed into halftime with a 9-5 lead. After making some much needed halftime adjustments, A&M opened the second half with renewed ferocity and outscored the Owls 3-14 in the second half on the way to an 23-8 win.
The Aggies look forward to their week off with hopes to recharge their batteries. This upcoming two week stretch will serve as a vital preparation time for A&M who will travel to Missouri March 7th to take on three ranked teams in what will promise to be a season deciding weekend. Much of the Aggies National Tournament aspirations will surely be decided by their play.
