Austin, TX – The Aggies took on the Texas Longhorns on Sunday and left Austin with a convincing win for a 3-0 start to the 2018 season. The 47th season of Aggie lacrosse has A&M with a 2-0 record in the LSA D1 South division.
The Aggies Auggie Buerkle (#16, Jr A Bowie) was spectacular and led all scorers with 6g 2a, Gavin Planeta (#2 So M The Woodlands) 1g 1a, GW Bodden (#44 So A TMI) 3g 1a, Hunter Valk (#32 Fr M Cedar Park) 1a, Drew Johnson (#4 Jr M Magnolia) 1a, AJ Hepting (#24 Jr A Kingwood) 3g 3a, and Chandler Locklear (#21 Jr M Magnolia) 1g 1a round out the scoring for Texas A&M. Goalie Marco Robertson (#6 Jr G Dallas Jesuit) 7 saves .421.
Down 3-2 after the first quarter the Ags went on a 6-2 run in the second and in the third added 3-1 goal advantage to put the game out of reach. Starting the 4th quarter it was A&M 11-6 and the Ags coasted to a victory. Once the Aggie defense settled in the Longhorns had trouble attacking and that gave the offense a chance to work the ball around and run the offense. Several inside goals left no doubt that the Aggies had come to play. Aggie face-off men Alex Tartaglia (#20 Sr FO Colleyville Heritage), Matt Hanna (#17 Jr FO Seven Lakes), Henry England (#9 Jr FO Dripping Springs) and Quinton Davis (#11 Fr FO Klein Oak) went 20-9.
The Aggies had 28 ground balls.
